We are so excited to have TAMI O. BRODIE join the Destination South team as our newest Meeting + Event Manager!

Tami will be working alongside our Operations Team providing full-service meeting and event management and production expertise to ensure every event detail is perfected. We invite you to get to know Tami by checking out her ‘Quick Ten’ interview below!

DSOUTH: We are thrilled you have some time in your busy schedule to chat with us today, Tami! Let’s dive right in—where are you from?

TAMI: I was born and raised right here in Atlanta. In fact, I was born at Piedmont Hospital so I’m about as Atlanta as they come. I did leave Atlanta for a bit—I attended college in North Carolina and lived there for a few years, but I made the decision to come back to ATL because I wanted to start my family here.

DSOUTH: We are certainly glad that you made the decision to come back to Atlanta! Tell us about your background—what brought you to the meeting and event industry?

TAMI: I actually went to school and graduated with a degree in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration which, of course, is nothing remotely related to meeting and event management!

DSOUTH: Wow!

TAMI: I bet you weren’t expecting that, huh? I have had an interesting journey that led me to Destination South. I started out working in Georgia state government in the State Director’s Office of Child Support Enforcement. After a few years, I realized that this was not my calling and I took a huge leap of faith by joining an association management company (AMC) where I worked just a month shy of my 15 year workiversary.

DSOUTH: When and how did you know that working in the meetings and events industry was what you wanted to do?

TAMI: I have always innately planned events since middle school, but never really thought of it as a career path. It was when I was working at the AMC that I realized the event side really energized me and that was what I wanted to focus my efforts on.

DSOUTH: We are so glad you took that leap of faith and it led you to Destination South! Tell us about your new role here.

TAMI: I am so glad it brought me here, too! I am a Meeting + Event Manager and I am elated to be a part of an amazing team that will provide full-service meeting and event management and production for a variety of clients.

DSOUTH: What do you like best about your new position?

TAMI: Well, it’s only been a few weeks so far… but I was would have to say the best part about my new position is being a part of the team. Everyone at Destination South is genuinely kind and welcoming so it feels like I have left one family to go live with another so it makes for a much easier transition.

DSOUTH: What are you looking forward to in your new role?

TAMI: I cannot wait to jump right in and start producing some fantastic events in ways that are new and exciting to me. I can’t wait to learn from my team members and be challenged in new ways. Plus, I am really looking forward to meeting more people in the industry and creating new partnerships and relationships.

DSOUTH: We love hearing that and can’t wait to watch you grow with us! As a true Atlantan, what do you like best about living and working in the city?

TAMI: You mean as a true Georgia Peach what do I like best about Atlanta?! Ha! Being born and raised here, the southern hospitality and friendliness of Atlantans is so well known. I am proud to carry that mentality through my day-to-day interactions with clients and vendors. And, my family is here so there really is no other place I’d rather be than Atlanta.

DSOUTH: Tell us more about your family. They seem to be such a major aspect of your life.

TAMI: I think my family is awesome and I am so grateful to come from such a close-knit family like my own. It’s safe to say that my family has influenced me so much when it comes to my career and how to work with people from all backgrounds with different personalities. My father taught me how to work with all types of temperaments and personalities in the workplace and that a “no” now doesn’t me a “no” forever. He taught me that it takes patience to achieve success. My parents both taught me not to judge before understanding and to be empathetic when dealing with a tough personality while always carrying yourself with dignity and grace.

DSOUTH: Those are some incredible life lessons and words of advice for anyone! When you aren’t working, what do you enjoy doing?

TAMI: I don’t think you’ll be surprised to know that I love to hang out with my family when I’m not working. I love hanging out with my two pride and joys, my sweet daughters, Alexandria Olivia and Ava Carrington. We have been to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios a few times and those are some of my favorite memories. I also enjoy being an active volunteer at KIPP South Fulton Academy. GO FIRE!

DSOUTH: We love how much you love your family and are so happy you are a part of our Destination South family. Maybe the next time you head to Orlando, FL we can come along with you? Thanks for chatting with us, Tami. We appreciate you!
